Ahhh…the Three Letter Acronym, or TLA for short.
These are wildly thrown around in an IEP and when you’re new to the process you wonder what the heck everybody is talking about. It gets easier to understand after you’ve been through a couple of IEPs.
At first you think everybody is either trying to hide something or make you feel insecure about not being able to keep up with the conversation. Now you know how our kids feel in the classroom.
The acronyms are actually quite useful once you get the hang of it. They shorten mouthfuls of long, multi-syllabic words and make writing them a dream.
We started everything centered around APD (Auditory Processing Disorder) which has been “updated” to be CAPD (Central Auditory Processing Disorder). Sometimes even the acronyms become confusing.
